BwD Youth Forum

BwD Youth Forum are a group of elected young people working alongside Blackburn with Darwen Council to shape and design services for children and young people.

The Youth Forum meets every Tuesday at YPS, Daisyfield base from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. They attend 6 regional Youthforia events each year where they meet with 23 other Youth Councils from across the North West to discuss and debate issues affecting young people.


The BwD Youth Elections took place in February and the newly elected Youth MP’s are:

Zara Hayat
Campaign Issues: M.A.D – Making a difference for our elderly and most vulnerable young people

Zainab Dassu
Campaign Issues: Increase provision of recreational facilities for young people & Improve Young Peoples mental health

Mohammed Bapu
Campaign Issues: Mental Health & Youth Crime

In addition, the 2021 Youth Forum will campaign on the following issues:

  1. Free University
    “We should invest in the young people of today by providing free university.  The alternative is that young people will suffer financial hardship and not reach their full potential.”

  2. Support Our Mental Health
    “More money should be given for young people’s mental health support in schools and ensure that teachers know about mental health.”

  3. Tackle Child Poverty
    “If we do not take action now, it is predicted that waste plastics will outweigh fish in our oceans by 2050.  Let’s reduce single-use and non-essential plastics.”

Getting Involved

All young people are welcome to join the forum at any time. If you wish to stand for Youth MP and deputy positions, YPS host the annual Youth Elections across all schools, colleges, youth clubs and youth organisations in January/February.
