Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time.

BwD YPS holds the local award license for the DofE award. This means that YPS oversee evidence uploaded to the DofE system (used to demonstrate YP achievements), support schools with advice and access to DofE and other resources, and can be commissioned by schools/colleges and other organisations to deliver expeditions/training elements.

The delivery of the DofE is led by the Positive Activities Team (PAT) and YPS run an open award night every Monday evening, which allows YP from all over the borough to access support in getting through their awards. The PAT also supports vulnerable YP engaged in other YP programmes to progress through the award – such as TYS and the CwD inclusion project.
